Social Fabric artistic team - Tuija Hansen to co-deliver four days of class at @algomatrad Family Camp 2020 (Copy)

Last week, our Artistic Director Miranda Bouchard @mirpy_doo joined Thunder Bay artist - and member of the Social Fabric artistic team - Tuija Hansen @tuija_hansen to co-deliver four days of class at @algomatrad Family Camp 2020.

In "The Local Colour Lab", learners explored themes and materials related to the @thinkingrockca Social Fabric project, as well as AlgomaTrad's Community Colours Dye Garden project. How-to demonstrations - from preparing protein (animal) fibres for dyeing (featuring a selection of local wools from @thevalleyfield @birchgrovefarms @willowcreek.farm and Masters Fibre Mill & Alpaca Farm) to responsible dye foraging from gardens, fields and forests, to recipes (and results!) of various dye baths - were enjoyed.

Artwork exploring place and community, including quilt blocks, collaborative poems and mummers' costumes were made. We acknowledge our summer team members (@aine.schryer.ogorman @itsmeyijiao and @aliciakathrine ), @honestfarmeralgoma Justice Stephney who has worked tirelessly on caring for the garden, our partners at @algomatrad who brought the camp to life in spite of challenging times, and the outstanding technical and documentary support of Sarah Fleming and Vince Candelino!
